Fear that the #FreeTheDelegates movement is becoming a front for supporting a third party candidacy is driving the Courageous Conservatives PAC to withdraw from tonight’s strategy conference call.
The PAC cited participation by third-party advocates William Kristol and David French as something the PAC did not want to join.
“Courageous Conservatives PAC wants to defeat Hillary Clinton and believes convention delegates should have the freedom to choose whoever they believe will best represent conservative values as our candidate,” said PAC spokesman Steve Lonegan.
“We have urged Governor Walker to step forward and agree to accept a draft, since he can unite conservatives and win in November,” Lonegan said. “But we have no intention of doing anything but supporting the GOP nominee the delegates back, even if it is Donald Trump.”
“Hillary Clinton must be stopped. We believe the way to do this is to free our delegates. We do not believe it is by supporting a Third Party candidacy whose sole purpose is to siphon enough votes from the GOP nominee to elect Clinton. And Kristol and French’s participation in this call indicates that’s the direction they’re headed,” Lonegan said.
